About 

Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC), Agartala, is a functioning Research Unit of CCRAS, New Delhi, situated in Tripura state for undertaking, coordinating, and promoting research in Ayurveda. This is the 30th institute of CCRAS and fifth among the institutes in the North Eastern Region. It was started on 7th march 2019, and since then it is continually providing their services in the Agartala.

Previously it was situated in the rented building at 135, Ramnagar, Road No. 4, Agartala there after it was shifted to another rented building at 462, Akhaura Road, PO Ramnagar, Near Bandhan Bank, Agartala, and currently it is continued in this building. The centre was started with following objectives:

  1. To cater out health care services and documentation of Health-related demography in different District of the state through OPDs, Ayurveda Health Centres and THCRP project.
  2. Undertake Research study to find out and identify specific disease prevalent in the state.
  3. To conduct clinical trials for studying the safety and efficacy of Ayurvedic drugs on specific diseases prevalent in the state.

At present OPD is functioning in this centre to provide health care services through Ayurveda. This institute provides the health care services through holistic approach of Ayurveda for different ailments. Patients are coming from different places of Tripura for the treatment of various diseases. OPD is enabled with Ayush-Health Management Information System (A-HMIS) software through which registration and clinical consultation of the patients updated on the portal at same time. Collection and documentation of patient data is maintained through this online portal. We are also collecting and analysing the data to identify the specific disease prevalent in this state.

As per the direction and guidelines of CCRAS, New Delhi the Institute has set up extension centers of Ayurvedic Health Center (AHC) in different districts of Tripura. All extension centers are located about 25 to 110 km away from the institute. Keeping the view to provide the Ayurvedic treatment facilities and creating the heath awareness, these centres are providing free consultation along with Ayurvedic medicines through OPD, distribution of Leaflets / IEC materials and create a general health awareness i.e Dincharya, Ahar-Vihar etc., organize free health checkup camps in Gram Sabhas in nearby area of the Ayurvedic Health Center. Conducting routine blood sugar and Haemoglobin investigations in day-to-day programme.

Four extension centers under North East Project are as follows: –

  1. Ayurvedic Health Centre – Moharcherra under Khowai district.
  2. Ayurvedic Health Centre – Kakraban under Gomati district.
  3. Ayurvedic Health Centre – Jirania under West Tripura district.
  4. Ayurvedic Health Centre – Santirbazar under South Tripura district

Since the inception of this centre, the expectations of the public and patients were very high as it was the first Ayurveda Centre of the Central Government in this state under the Ministry of AYUSH. With minimal infrastructure and limited staff, wholehearted efforts were made to provide the best Ayurveda services to the patients in every possible way.

The Tribal Health Care Research Programme (THCRP) project was entrusted by the Council as part of a multi-centric public health care programme with RARC, Agartala, Tripura and other centres of CCRAS. Under this programme various health related benefits are provided to Trible people of Agartala, Tripura.

Aims and objectives of the programme:

  • To study the living condition, geographical and environmental profile of the tribal people.
  • To study of socio-demographic profile of the tribal people.
  • To study of dietetic habits of the tribal people.
  • To assess the health status of the tribal people and study the nature and frequency of prevalent disease among them.
  • To spread awareness about health and hygiene.
  • To provide medical aid at their doorstep
  • To collect and document the local health tradition/folk claims.

 

The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) project involved documentation of therapeutic value of medicinal plants involving analytical methods and extensive survey among the ethnic communities inhibiting in the states of Tripura. The survey also included documentation of the folk healers of the above region. For study, semi-structured questionnaire format developed by the CCRAS was used by project team in field surveys. Data collection, data documentation, and herbarium preparation has been continuing since 2022.

Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India, New Delhi has initiated the Pharmacovigilance Program for ASU drugs. This institute working as a new Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre since 15th April 2022. The Pharmacovigilance Program of ASU & H drugs has been rolled out by the Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi under the Central Sector Scheme in 2017 with the objective of reporting ADRs, Misleading Advertisement and creating awareness about pharmacovigilance in ASU & H Drugs.
